In-Clinic Teeth Whitening Procedure

  • A typical same-day teeth whitening treatment will usually take 45 to 90 minutes to complete. 
  • First, a protective coating is applied over the gums to avoid any contact of the bleaching gel with the gums.
  • You will also wear a soft lip retractor to help keep your mouth open. 
  • Next, the bleaching gel is applied onto the tooth surfaces that are visible when you smile. 
  • From there, a special light is applied to activate the bleaching agents. 
  • An oxidation process occurs where the oxygen will bleach any colored substances in the tooth.
  • The gel is then rinsed away.

To manage the sensitivity caused by teeth whitening, we will prescribe a desensitizing toothpaste, which is to be used each day for a few weeks after the procedure.

The most common factors that cause staining & discolouration of teeth are coffee, tea, tobacco use, dental trauma, ageing and certain medications.
