CROWNS & BRIDGES

Restore the Shape, Function & Esthetics of Your Teeth

DENTAL CROWNS

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown or a cap is a ‘protective restoration’ that completely covers the entire tooth surface.

It is designed to fit over a the tooth –

  • Providing a natural appearance
  • Safeguarding the remaining tooth structure
  • Restoring it to its original shape and size

Why would you need a dental crown?

  • To cover and strengthen a tooth after a Root Canal Treatment
  • To restore severely worn & broken teeth
  • Preventing a tooth from breaking when it is weak (possibly due to decay or trauma)
  • Cosmetic enhancement of severely discoloured, misshapen or fractured teeth
  • Holding a dental bridge in place
  • To cap a dental implant

What is the purpose of fixing a dental crown over a tooth?

When a tooth has undergone Root Canal Treatment  or has been structurally compromised because of heavy loss of tooth structure due to decay, multiple large fillings or trauma, a crown may be recommended to help protect the remaining tooth structure and reduce the risk of fractures of the tooth. Crowns can also improve the overall esthetics of your smile

What are the different materials used for crowns?

There are various material choices for crowns and these are selected based on individual criteria to ensure you get the most suitable restoration for your particular situation.

Metal free crowns:

Ceramic or porcelain crowns

  • Emax crowns
  • Zirconia crowns

Metallic crowns

  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns
  • Metal crowns

The majority of our dental crowns are made of full ceramic, without metal.

They blend in with the neighboring teeth for an attractive natural smile.

When we design your ceramic dental crowns, we use special shade guides to match the exact colour of your natural tooth to that of the ceramic crowns.

DENTAL BRIDGES

DENTAL BRIDGES

What is a dental bridge?

As the name implies, a dental bridge is a dental prosthesis that “bridges” a gap that is created because of missing teeth.

They are used for replacing a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth.

A fixed dental bridge almost looks like 3 to 4 crowns in a row, but only the ones on either end will fit over a tooth or dental implant.

They require a healthy natural tooth on either end for support.

Why would you need a fixed dental bridge?

  • To fill the space caused by missing teeth
  • For restoring your ability to chew
  • Restoring your speaking ability
  • Restoring your smile
  • Preventing your remaining teeth from drifting out of correct position
  • Re-adjusting your bite to properly distribute the force when you chew

What are the different materials used for bridges?

The materials used for bridges are same as those used for crowns.

Metal free:

Ceramic or porcelain bridges

  • Zirconia bridges
  • Emax bridges

Metallic:

  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal bridges
  • Metal bridges

Dental bridge or Implant: Which one is better?

Dental implants and bridges can both potentially deliver natural-looking results, but they come with their own benefits and drawbacks.

The best option for you depends on:

  • Which teeth are missing
  • Number of teeth that are missing
  • Health of the surrounding teeth & gums
  • Your overall health

Advantages of bridges:

  • They do not require a surgery
  • Usually require a short duration (About 2 weeks) to be completed

Advantages of Dental Implants

  • They don’t damage the healthy teeth around the missing teeth
  • They are the longest lasting option currently available for replacing missing teeth

We will advise you about the best tooth replacement option for your situation.

PROCEDURE FOR DENTAL CROWNS & BRIDGES

  • After choosing your preferred material, we will begin by shaping the outer surface of the remaining tooth for a crown.
  • The tooth is reduced across the top and the sides.
  • For a bridge, the natural teeth that will support your new bridge will be shaped.
  • An impression is made.
  • This impression is sent to a dental lab where a skilled technician will craft a custom-made crown/bridge according to your specifications.
  • In some cases a temporary crown/bridge made of acrylic, is fixed on the teeth which will cover and protect the prepared teeth till the time the final crown or bridge is fixed.
  • In the next visit, permanent crown/bridge is placed on the teeth to check its fit and colour
  • It is then fixed on the tooth with a special cement if the fit & colour is satisfactory.

Our customized dental crowns and bridges are crafted from the highest quality materials.

Our ceramic dental crowns & bridges blend in perfectly with your smile for a natural appearance
